Who is Community Care Project (CCP)?

Commonly known as “CCP”. The Community Care Project (CCP) was established in 1999 by the Pietermaritzburg Christian Fellowship (PCF), now known as Grace Generation Church. The project operated under the umbrella of Project Gateway (PG), until 2008 when it moved into its own premises and registered as a Trust. CCP was established as a church-based, non-profit making organisation to serve the city of Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal and its surrounding communities, covering the Umsunduzi Sub-District KZ 225 of the Umgungundlovu District 22, mainly in the area of HIV and Aids.

The core purpose of CCP is the training of community members through churches and schools to assist infected families and communities to tackle the HIV and Aids issue. Since April 2000, community-based teams have been trained and established through local churches predominantly in rural and peri-urban areas.

We’re a highly collaborative and supportive team, coming together on every project to ensure our communities get the very best result.

Our Vision

The CCP exists to see to the establishment of a holistic and practical base for the fight against the spread of HIV and AIDS and a vehicle for breaking the silence and reducing the effects of the disease by:

  • Providing hands-on practical wellness training for Home-Based Care (H-BC) and Childcare training and support to selected members of churches in and around Pietermaritzburg.
  • Providing HIV and AIDS Education and Leadership Development in HIV and AIDS issues in selected Schools in the Pietermaritzburg Area.
  • Providing a Future Hope for Orphans and Vulnerable Children filtered through the Churches and Schools programmes.
  • Facilitating Trained Individuals (or Caregivers) and Support Personnel (mainly Support Interns, Support Workers, Support Facilitators and Pastoral Support Worker) to work with affected families (those identified families whose PLWHAs and OVC CCP works with)  to manage the disease.
  • Establishing Sustainability Programmes with Stakeholders to help them start some businesses or gardens, to receive spiritual supervision, and to help those families who qualify, to access government grants to sustain the family with time.

Our Mission

In full the mission is – “Seeing every individual as precious to God, and having physical, emotional and spiritual needs, the Community Care Project seeks to provide a Church-Based Family Intervention of Training; Holistic Care; a Future Hope and tools for empowerment and management in HIV and Aids related needs in selected communities.”

And in short, the mission is – “CCP – Caring for the community through training in HIV with LOVE” and Childcare training and support to selected members of churches in and around Pietermaritzburg.

What does CCP believe?

CCP is dedicated to combating HIV and AIDS by empowering communities through targeted engagement with schools, churches, and local leaders. Our approach involves identifying and supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) in schools. Trained Support Personnel from churches and the community conduct home visits, fostering self-sustainability through personal relationships and ongoing support.

This strategy not only sustains families but also strengthens OVCs, promoting dignity in families affected by HIV and AIDS. CCP recognizes the importance of a Family Intervention Setting in addressing the African HIV and AIDS situation, emphasizing the enduring significance of the extended family system.

CCP’s shift from assisting individuals to a holistic family empowerment approach aims to break the AIDS silence and equip communities to provide ongoing support beyond project completion.
